Treating Dynamic Wrinkles

Dynamic wrinkles are a part of a natural, expressive face. But if expression lines have gotten deeper and more noticeable than you’d like, Dysport can help restore a smoother appearance. Dysport is an injectable neurotoxin that relaxes the facial muscles to soften crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead wrinkles without changing your facial features. At the Aesthetic Center of Gainesville, we use Dysport to help patients throughout Northeast Georgia enjoy a more refreshed look that lasts up to four months.

01

What Is Dysport?

Dysport is an FDA-approved neurotoxin, a type of injectable that blocks nerve signals that would otherwise tell a facial muscle to contract. With certain muscles more relaxed, the skin above can stay smooth. Dysport uses the same active ingredient as Botox, but with small differences, making them both suitable for different situations. Dysport is often used to treat larger areas because of its more diffuse formulation.

02

What Can Dysport Treat?

  • Frown Lines: These vertical creases form between the eyebrows when you concentrate or squint. Dysport is FDA-approved specifically for these lines and relaxes the muscles that pull the brows inward and downward.
  • Forehead Lines: Because it spreads so well, Dysport can also be useful for the horizontal lines that develop on the forehead from raising your eyebrows.
  • Crow’s Feet: These fine lines that fan out from the corners of the eyes can be softened with Dysport while allowing you to keep your natural smile.
  • Other Lines and Wrinkles: Dysport can also be used off-label for other lines such as bunny lines, chin dimpling and neck bands.

Dysport Injections

Preparation

  • Schedule 2-4 weeks ahead of special events. This gives your skin time to heal and allows the full results to appear.
  • Avoid blood thinners. Medications or supplements that thin the blood can increase bruising after injections. Check with your doctor if you are on prescription blood thinners.
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol. Both can increase bruising and swelling after injections.
  • Discontinue products with active ingredients. Products with retinol or harsh acids should be paused before and after treatment.
  • Come with clean skin. Remove makeup and other products from your skin before arriving for a clean, treatment-ready surface.

Dysport Injections

During

The number of injections given varies by treatment area. Your provider will examine the movement of your muscles and the location of wrinkles, and then place injections at specific points in the muscles. We use a fine needle, and the injections take just a few minutes.

Dysport Injections

After

  • Stay upright for four hours. Staying in an upright position helps the medication to stay in the intended area.
  • Avoid facial massage or treatments. Do not rub the treated area or receive other treatments like facials for several days after Dysport.
  • Avoid heavy exercise. This includes heavy lifting or intense cardio.
  • Avoid heat. Hot tubs, saunas, hot showers and more in the hours after Dysport treatments can affect results.
  • Use gentle products. Continue avoiding any harsh cleansers or strong ingredients while the injection points heal.

About Dysport

FAQs

When will I see my Dysport results?

Most patients begin to see improvement within one to two days after their injections. Full results typically develop within 10 to 14 days. This is faster than many other neuromodulators, which can take up to a week to start producing noticeable changes.

How long does Dysport last?

Results generally last three to four months. The timeline varies by patient and treatment area. Scheduling regular maintenance appointments before full muscle movement returns can help extend the smoothing effect.

Will my face look frozen after Dysport?

Not when it’s injected properly. Dysport’s natural spread helps create a soft, even result that allows for normal facial expressions. Our providers use proper dosing to keep your look natural.

How much does Dysport cost?

Dysport is priced per unit, and per-unit costs are typically lower than Botox. However, Dysport uses a different unit of measurement, so more units are needed to achieve a comparable effect. The total cost per session is generally similar between the two. Your provider will give you an estimate based on the areas being treated and the number of units recommended.

What is the active ingredient in Dysport?

The active ingredient is abobotulinumtoxinA, a purified form of botulinum toxin type A produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It works by temporarily blocking a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine that your body uses to tell muscles to contract. After three to four months, your body restores these connections and the effects of the treatment fade.

“Dr. Schaheen explains everything top to bottom”

I cut my pinky flexor tendon mid-July, and had a different doctor operate. When I hadn’t seen the greatest results, I went to Dr. Schaheen and she scheduled me for surgery immediately with full communication on what needed to be improved. My surgery was early October, and the scar is already almost non-existent! She is EXTREMELY knowledgeable, and a joy to talk to. She has the sweetest, most nurturing personality. Dr. Schaheen explains everything top to bottom. The only negative thing about her is that I can’t rate above five stars. Dr. Schaheen, you are a JOY!!!!!

- Miranda P.

“Dr. Emily performed surgery on my hand after breaking it with a spiral fracture. I received plates and pins. Her bedside manner, professional, and knowledge were amazing! My hand was fixed right up! I have zero pain and full movement in my hand and fingers. And as a bonus, the scar from surgery is not even noticeable 🙂 I would recommend Dr. Emily time and time again!”

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!”
