About Dr. Abell

Why Patients Choose Dr. Abell

Dr. Ed Abell has been with Northeast Georgia Plastic Surgery since 2004, offering cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, body, breast, skin and hands.

Plastic surgery is a deeply personal decision, and Dr. Abell treats it that way. Patients describe him as warm, approachable and genuinely interested in what brought them through the door. He listens more than he talks during a consultation, and when he explains something, he does it without the medical jargon. If a procedure isn’t the right fit, he says so.

That kind of honesty has earned him the trust and loyalty of his patients. Many come back for second procedures years later, and just as many send their friends and family members his way. It’s a reputation built one consultation at a time, over the span of two decades in practice.

Areas of Expertise

Dr. Abell performs body contouring, liposuction, facelift surgery, breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lift and breast reconstruction, along with skin cancer reconstruction and post-weight loss body contouring.

He also has a longstanding interest in hand surgery, where the goal is often functional as much as it is cosmetic. Restoring grip strength, range of motion or the simple ability to use a hand without pain is some of the most rewarding work he does, and patients who come in for hand concerns often comment on how much time he takes to explain the surgical plan and what recovery will actually look like.

02

A Career Built on the Fundamentals

Dr. Abell earned his bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University in 1993, then completed his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis in 1997. He went on to a general surgery residency at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, before returning to the University of Tennessee for his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency.

He joined Northeast Georgia Plastic Surgery in 2004 and has been here ever since. In that time, he has seen the practice grow, watched families return across generations and helped shape the standard of care patients have come to expect. His steady presence reflects a deep commitment to the community and the relationships he’s built over more than two decades.

03

Outside the Operating Room

Dr. Abell grew up in Elizabethton, Tennessee, and now calls Georgia home alongside his wife and two daughters. He has a long-running interest in photography, plays guitar and finds his way outdoors as often as possible, whether that means hiking, cycling or watching sports.

Amazing physician and staff. Dr. Schaheen took extra time to explain everything to me and allowed me to ask questions, insured I had no complications after surgery, and treated me like family through the whole process.

Professional, knowledgeable, and communicative. I’ve only seen her once but she analyzed my hand, recommended a course of action, followed through, and it all worked fine. I can’t say enough about how much I’m impressed. Need a recommendation? Choose her.

“Dr. Schaheen explains everything top to bottom”

I cut my pinky flexor tendon mid-July, and had a different doctor operate. When I hadn’t seen the greatest results, I went to Dr. Schaheen and she scheduled me for surgery immediately with full communication on what needed to be improved. My surgery was early October, and the scar is already almost non-existent! She is EXTREMELY knowledgeable, and a joy to talk to. She has the sweetest, most nurturing personality. Dr. Schaheen explains everything top to bottom. The only negative thing about her is that I can’t rate above five stars. Dr. Scaheen, you are a JOY!!!!!

- Miranda P.
