Smooth, Natural-Looking Results With RHA Dermal Fillers

Finding the right dermal filler is a choice that you make between you and your provider, with many things to consider, like the treatment area and concern. RHA fillers are a newer generation of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers that are suitable for those who want a product that moves and flexes with facial expressions. At the Aesthetic Center of Gainesville, we use the RHA collection to smooth lines and provide soft and flexible volume for patients in Gainesville.

01

What Are RHA Fillers?

RHA stands for resilient hyaluronic acid. Like other dermal fillers, the RHA Collection is made with hyaluronic acid, but a gentle, heatless manufacturing process better preserves more of the natural HA structure, creating a filler that stretches and moves with you. The RHA Collection is the first and only family of HA fillers FDA-approved for dynamic wrinkles that are formed when you smile or talk.

All About

The RHA Collection

The RHA collection includes four formulations, each with a different thickness and flexibility:

RHA 2

This is one of the softer fillers in the collection. It is injected into the mid-to-deep skin layers to smooth dynamic wrinkles. RHA 2 can be used for cheek lines, peorial lines and lip enhancement.

RHA 3

RHA 3 is slightly firmer and provides lift for moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles and folds. We often use it in nasolabial folds and marionette lines, as well as the midface and lips.

RHA Dynamic Volume (RHA 4)

This more robust filler treats deep folds and areas that benefit from more volume restoration and structure. Despite its firmness, it is still able to flex with facial movement.

RHA Redensity

Redensity has the thinnest and softest consistency in the collection. It can treat delicate superficial lines, including smoker’s lines around the lips.

Who Is a Good Candidate for RHA Fillers?

RHA fillers are suitable for adults 22 and older. It can be a good fit for patients who want to smooth wrinkles and restore volume, but are looking for a subtle and natural-looking result. Your provider will evaluate other factors for candidacy during your consultation, such as your overall health, the condition of your skin, facial structure and your goals for treatment.

03

Pre-Treatment Steps for RHA Fillers

  • Stop blood-thinning medications and supplements one week before treatment to minimize bruising. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba and green tea extract. Check with your doctor before stopping prescribed medications.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours. Alcohol increases the chance of bruising and swelling.
  • Tell your provider if you have a history of cold sores. Injections around the mouth can trigger a flare-up. Your doctor can prescribe an antiviral medication if needed.
  • Come to your appointment with clean skin. Skip moisturizer and makeup on the morning of your appointment.

04

What to Expect From Your RHA Treatment

RHA injections are done right in the office and take less than an hour from start to finish. Your provider may apply a topical numbing cream, and each RHA filler also contains a local anesthetic mixed into the gel for comfort. The filler will be injected with a fine needle or cannula, with multiple injections in one treatment area to evenly disperse the product.

RHA Treatment

Recovery and Aftercare

Apply a cold compress gently if needed

Make sure to wrap the ice pack in a clean cloth and use it in short intervals to manage swelling. Avoid heavy pressure.

Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours

Elevated heart rate and blood flow can increase swelling and bruising. Light walking is fine, but wait to resume intense workouts, hot yoga and heavy lifting.

Don’t touch or massage the treated areas

Pressing too hard on the filler before it fully settles can impact results. If your provider gives you specific instructions to massage a certain area, follow their guidance only.

Skip makeup on the treated areas for at least 12 to 24 hours

Keeping the injection sites clean while they close up helps lower the risk of irritation or infection.

Sleep with your head slightly elevated the first night

An extra pillow can help reduce overnight swelling.

About RHA Fillers

FAQs

How long do RHA fillers last?

Results typically last between 12 and 15 months, depending on the product, the treatment area and your body’s metabolism. Areas with more movement may break down filler slightly faster.

When will I see my RHA results?

Some improvement is visible right after RHA injections. Mild swelling can temporarily change the appearance of the treated area, but most patients see their final results within one to two weeks.

How do I know which RHA product is right for me?

Each product is formulated for different depths and types of wrinkles. Your provider will help you find the right product for your concerns and skin thickness. You may benefit from combining two or more RHA products in a single session.

Can RHA fillers be used alongside other treatments?

RHA fillers can be paired with neurotoxins like Botox® or Dysport® to treat different areas and types of wrinkles. You can talk to your provider about what treatments may benefit your skin.

Will my results look natural?

RHA fillers move with your face, which helps prevent the stiff or overfilled look that some patients worry about. The gel flexes as you make expressions, so results look natural when your face is at rest and in motion.
